Hi! I’m Jill. I’m a multimedia journalist, with a focus on business and data journalism.
I currently cover distressed debt and leveraged finance for Bloomberg News. Previously at Bloomberg, I covered health, oil markets, the economy, and wealth. I also completed a project for the news automation team aimed at extracting structured data on asset-based securities deals.
I completed my master’s degree in business and data journalism as the inaugural Jack Rosenthal Scholar at the CUNY Newmark School of Journalism. I like reporting on the economy, markets and companies, especially related to healthcare, and I have a special interest in investigative research methods as well as using Python for data scraping and analysis.
I moved to the United States when I was nine from Mumbai, India. In addition to English, I speak Gujarati and speak, read and write Hindi fluently. I am proficient in Spanish. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology with honors from Northwestern University, where I studied general sciences, too.
I’m also a career changer. Before becoming a journalist, I worked for six years in technology, international development and global health. After college, I moved back to Mumbai, India as a database consultant for social impact organizations. I spent four years at Medic Mobile, an award-winning nonprofit technology company supporting health workers around the world. I’ve worked in professional settings in India, Nepal, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Portugal and Switzerland.
I currently live in Astoria, Queens with my partner and our growing collection of houseplants.
